Manicures and Pedicures

A manicure is a beauty treatment for your fingernails and hands. The word manicure comes from the Latin word "manus", meaning "hand", and "cura" meaning "cure". Clients can choose to opt for a manicure that treats just the hands, or just the nails, or to have a manicure which treats both. A typical manicure usually includes filing and shaping of the nails with an emery board and the application of polish. Some speciality manicures, such as the French Manicure, may also be offered. For slightly more money the client can ask the therapist to apply artificial nails or even paint pictures or designs on their nails which can be decorated with small decals or imitation jewels, which is known as nail art.

Hand treatments during a manicure usually include the therapist soaking your hands in a softening substance and then applying hand lotion to them. A similar treatment performed on the feet is a pedicure.
