Negligence claims against Beauty Therapists and Nail Technicians
are rising dramatically and so insurance is vital to safeguard the future of your business. As a Full Guild member you are insured to work as an individual in the UK from a room in your house, mobile or to rent a room in a salon.
Full membership of the Guild of Professional Beauty, Holistic Therapist and Nail Technicians automatically covers you for Treatment (no excess), Public (Property damage excess is £100 e.g. when they spill something on client's carpet or on table or a handbag) and Product Liability cover (£2 million). The most popular beauty and holistic treatments are included in the full membership package. The Guild's master policy is underwritten by Groupama. The cover provided is that the member is indemnified up to a limit of £2,000,000 in respect of Public Liability for any one occurrence or series of occurrences but in all, in any one period of insurance for Professional Treatment arising out of the members business
What Treatments Are Covered?
Guild Of Professional Beauty Therapists Insurance Treatment List
Only Full Guild Members, Specific Skills and Student Members are covered by the Guild's group insurance policy (policy number CZDA0000106). Membership and insurance cover is on an individual basis and does not cover employees unless they too are Full Guild of Beauty Therapist members, Full Guild of Nail Technicians members, Full Guild of Holistic Members or Specific Skills or Student Members. Student membership insurance cover stipulates that students require the direct supervision of a Full Guild member when carrying out treatments on any member of the public. Students are covered to carry out case studies for the following treatments only: Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Indian Head Massage, Body Massage, Manual Facials, Make-up, Manicure and Pedicure (excluding the cutting of cuticles). For all treatments requiring insurance cover, you must hold and have agreed the appropriate qualifications for those treatments that you practice. We do require photocopies of qualification certificates sending in with your application and if further qualifications are achieved we will require photocopies to be sent into the office in order for your insurance records to be updated.

- Earth Oxygen
- Ear Piercing Products Only the soft non-cartilaginous part of the earlobe, using a system designed to protect the gun instrument from contamination and use pre-sterilised ear studs and back clasps. Minors (under 16) must have parents/Guardians written consent. The cartilaginous part may be pierced with special permission only.
- Electrical Epilation Short Wave Diathermy - sterile disposable needle must be used for each client, Blend, Tweezer and Non-Invasive methods.

- Eyelash and Eyebrow Tinting - The insured must take a skin test at least 24 hrs before applying an eyelash or eyebrow tint for the first time. Should there be an allergic reaction to the skin test the company will not be liable for any claim that may arise from eyelash or eyebrow tinting given subsequent to any test.

- Face painting and the application of transfers to children at parties. A parent/guardian or responsible adult must be present to verbally consent to the face painting of a minor.No face painting may be carried out on any minor under the age of three.

- Facial Treatments, Facial massage, Steaming, Oxygen facials. Chi Facials, Ayurvedic facial massage, Shira dara, a relaxing treatment of warm oil or milk poured onto the clients head for total relaxation. The head and scalp is massage during the treatment.

- Toning Tables - provided that the insured has received training in their use and that a full medical consultation is taken from the client prior to each use. The insured must display prominently the manufacturers instructions for use.

Additional Extensions To Full Guild Membership Insurance Cover
Additional cover is available to Full Members of The Guild of Professional Beauty, Holistic and Nail Technicians when the additional insurance premium has been paid.
Hairdressing (Shampooing, Cutting, Styling, Colouring, Drying, Perming, Hair Extensions and Barbaring to inc cut throat shaving and Afro Carribean hair treatments as long as they have a training certificate ) - £20 per person.
Hairdressing Students can be covered to carry out general duties in the salon under direct supervision of a qualified hairdresser if they take out student membership and the hairdressing extension. Once qualified they would need to become a full member and take out the hairdressing extension.
Red Veins, Skin Tags, Milia, Warts and Moles by Short wave diathermy or Veinwave, VBeauty only Must have obtained GPs written consent before treating for removing Warts or Moles - £50 per person. Skin Tags no longer require permission from GP. Verrucas can be treated using short wave diathermy, this is on the proviso they are not covering any form of chiropody and not cutting the skin.
Laser & Intense Pulse Light Hair Removal Systems may be used to remove hair on clients who have Up to skin type 4 on the Fitzpatrick Scale. The cost of this insurance extension is £100 per person. The salon must where required be registered and approved by the Health care commission.
Insurance cover for Skin rejuvenation, sun damaged skin - treating pigmentation of the skin, i.e. clearing/removal of brown spots/marks, and acne treatments using Laser or IPL systems costs £85 per person per year. This insurance extension can only be taken out when the premium for Laser & Intense Pulse Light Hair Removal has been paid.
Red veins treatments using Laser or IPL systems - annual premium £80 per person per year. This insurance extension can only be taken out when the premium for Laser & Intense Pulse Light Hair Removal has been paid.
Property Extension/Tools of the Trade - All Risks (Flat Sum Insured £3000) annual premium £60 (Excess £50).
Employers Liability - annual premium is £70.00, per employee up to a maximum of 2 employees. For 2 employees the price would be £140.00.
Public Liability only up to £5 million extension additional annual premium required £26.25 per person.
Cover for therapists who work abroad on a BFPO army base in Europe.
This cover can be arranged, and an additional premium is payable. The policy restricts the therapist to treating only UK Nationals on the BFPO base. Please call our office on 0845 217 7384 for details of the premium required.
