Holistic Therapy Treatments

1.0 Introduction

The professional beauty industry can be segmented into three distinct areas of beauty therapy, holistic therapy and nail treatments. While beauty treatments and nail treatments focus on achieving visible results and improvements, holistic treatments tend to focus more on the inner feelings and wellbeing of the client. The survey on Holistic Treatments examines Holistic Therapy treatments and the attitudes of the therapists that offer them.

2.0 Objectives

The survey on Holistic Therapy Treatments was carried out on Beautyguild.com from 9/12/15 to 19/2/16 and was completed by 263 people. he objectives of the survey were:

  • To examine which holistic treatments are most popular and what are the average treatment costs.
  • To investigate how much of a cross-over there is between holistic treatments and beauty treatments and to understand the main differences.
  • To estimate the size of the holistic treatment market
  • To find out why people decide to train as holistic therapists
  • To find out what holistic therapists like and dislike about working in the industry.

3.0 Holistic Treatments Compared to Other Treatments

The survey was targeted towards therapists who offered holistic treatments. Some therapists only offer holistic treatments, whilst other therapists will also offer treatments in other areas such as beauty, nails and hair. One of the objectives of the survey was to find out how many therapists only offered holistic treatments, and of those that offered additional services, what services did they offer? In our survey sample of therapists, 31.7% told us that they only offered holistic treatments. The proportion of therapists that offered other services are shown in a table in the full report.

4.0 Popular Holistic Treatments And Average Treatment Prices

We gave our sample of therapists a range of the most popular holistic treatments and asked them to tell us which of them they offered to their clients and how much they charged for a treatment. The table below shows the availability or popularity of each holistic treatment and the average price charged for the treatment. A table showing the order of treatment popularity and availability.

5.0 The Size Of The Holistic Treatment Market

We wanted to examine the size of the holistic treatment market to find out how many holistic treatments were carried out each year and how many holistic therapy clients there were in the UK. We asked our sample of holistic therapists how many holistic treatment they carried out each week. The result is shown in the full report.

6.0 Holistic Treatment Business Types

Holistic treatments can be offered through a variety of business types and premises. We asked our sample to tell us which business type they used. The table of the options provided and the results obtained is shown in the full report.

7.0 How Much Difference Do You Think There Is Between Holistic And Beauty Treatments?

In sections 3.0 and 4.0 we looked at how holistic treatments overlap with beauty treatments. We tried to examine this further by asking our sample how big a difference there was between the two types of treatments. The question we asked was:
How much difference do you think there is between holistic and beauty treatments?
We gave them three difference options. The options and the percentage of the sample that opted for each of them are shown in a table in the full report.

8.0 Why Do You Enjoy Offering Holistic Treatments?

We have seen in previous surveys that therapists working in the industry are amongst some of the happiest workers in the UK. We tried to find out more about what it is about holistic treatments that attract therapists to offer them to their clients. We asked the question:
Why do you enjoy offering holistic treatments?
We gave our sample a range of options and asked them to tick any or all that the agreed with. The options and the level of support they received is shown in a table in the full report.

9.0 At What Age Did You Start To Train As A Holistic Therapist?

Is there a certain age at which people are attracted to become holistic therapists? There are an abundance of holistic therapy training courses on offer today, but choice was more limited ten or twenty years ago which might be why some therapists have come into the industry in later life. We asked our sample to tell us when they first trained in holistic treatments and the results are shown in a table in the full report.

10.0 Holistic Therapy Training

We asked our sample of therapists to tell us where they had trained and what courses they were considering taking next. The therapists listed a wide range of FE and private colleges with no one college or institute standing out as a clear favourite. The courses that our therapists told us they would like to take next are shown in a table in the full report ranked in order of popularity.

11.0 Why Do People Decide To Train In Holistic Therapy?

We wanted to get an understanding of who or what it is that drives people to train as holistic therapists. We asked a simple question and allowed a free text response. The answers we received are shown in the full report along with a word cloud that picks out the most popular words used in all responses.

12.0 What Do You Like Most About Being A Holistic Therapist?

We asked our sample the question above and allowed them again to write as little or as much as they liked. The answers are shown in a table in the full report along with a word cloud that picks out the most popular words used in all responses.

13.0 What Do You Dislike About Being A Holistic Therapist?

Having asked in section 12.0 what people liked about working as a holistic therapist, we were obliged to ask what our sample of therapists disliked about their work. We asked the question above and invited a free text response.
