About the Professional Registers

The Professional Registers are five databases of beauty therapists, holistic therapists, nail technicians hairdressers and barbers and therapy lecturers who hold the required qualifications and training to enable them to work in the professional beauty industry. The registers are:

• Register of Professional Beauty Therapists
• Register of Professional Holistic Therapists
• Register of Professional Nail Technicians
• Register of Hairdressers and Barbers
• Register of Professional Therapy Lecturers

Professionals who are listed on the registers have all agreed to abide by a strict code of ethics and maintain their knowledge, skills and commitment through Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training and courses.

The Professional Registers help drive up standards across the professional beauty industry and give clients added confidence in the industry and the professionals who work in it. The Professional Registers can be accessed and searched by clients who want to be sure that they can find competent and ethical professionals. The Professional Registers give members of the public reassurance that they are dealing with people who are respected for their professional attitude and knowledge.

All Guild members who hold insurance are entitled to have their names placed on the appropriate Professional Register. The Professional Registers are also open to non-Guild members who meet the entry and insurance criteria for Guild membership and can show that they hold insurance for the safety of their clients. The Professional Registers are one of the key areas on the Beautyguild.com website which is the UK’s biggest professional beauty website. Visitors to Beautyguild.com can search for a therapist, hairdresser, nail technician or tutor by name, or find their nearest professional using a postcode search.

The Guild has been accrediting training and regulating standards in the professional beauty sector for over 30 years and is the largest trade body for beauty, hair, nail and holistic professionals in the industry. Government policy supports the need for Professional Registers which allows members of the public to choose therapists, nail technicians hairdressers and lecturers who are adequately qualified and insured. The Guild is therefore the most suitable organisation to establish and maintain the Professional Registers.

The professional beauty industry in the UK has operated safely and successfully to date without the need for government regulation. The industry has been very effectively self-regulated by trade bodies such as The Beauty Guild which is also one of the main insurance providers. The Professional Registers are an ideal way of bringing a more formalised approach to self-regulation through the trade bodies without adding unnecessarily to the business costs of therapists and training providers.

Having your name listed on one or more of the Professional Registers is an ideal way of demonstrating to clients, colleagues and students that you are a true professional. If you run your own business, it will allow you to attract new clients. The Professional Registers are also be used by employers, so if you are looking for a job, having your name and details included will boost your chances of finding work.

If you join one of more of the Professional Registers, you consent to have your name, contact details and the town you are located in displayed on the Beautyguild.com website which can be accessed by members of the public. In accordance with General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), The Guild will keep your data secure and not pass on any of your details to any third parties. The town you are located in will be shown but not your full address. Your email address will not be shown, although members of the public will be able to contact you on an individual basis through a form on the website. You have the option to display your social media links and list the treatments that you offer. You can amend or remove your entry on the Professional registers at any time by logging into your account on Beautyguild.com.

If you are a Full member of the Guild of Beauty Therapists, the Guild of Holistic Therapists, the Guild of Nail Technicians, Guild of Hairdressers and Barbers or the Guild of Therapy Lecturers, you can add your name to the appropriate Professional Register by logging into your account on Beautyguild.com. If you are an Associate Member, you will need to provide us with details of your insurance before you can be added to the Register. All eligible members of The Guild can join the appropriate Professional Register free of charge as part of their membership benefits. If you are not a member of the Guild, you can apply to join the Professional Registers for an annual fee of £39 + VAT.
