Spring's new manicures are a cinch with Colour & Effects step-by-step layering. "Layering polishes give custom looks and dimension. It's the big trend we showed on the runways," says Jan Arnold, CND co-founder and style director. Here are three new warm weather nail styles:

Sugar Buzz
Modern manicures evoke 50s and 60s Americana. Get this look with CND's limited edition Spring Colour & Effects combo of Sweet, a poppy-pink pastel Colour and Sugar Sparkle, a crushed diamond Effect. Worn alone, Sweet is clean-cut and innocent; paired with edgy high-heels and a femme fatale wardrobe, it is the painted anthem of the Goody-Girl Goth. Playful pink manicures set off Spring's new mini-dot, swirl and zigzag prints.

Sand-blasted
Tonal, mineral washed nails complement the new earthy, textured palette. Chic, Boho nails are polished with Desert Suede or Putty, and layered with Gold Shimmer Effect and Super Matte. Malandrino paired this manicure with neutral eye shadow and a mattefied nude lip. As with Cushie et Ochs and MaxAzria, sand blasted manicures point to the future with confidence.

Iron Maiden
Oxidised darks and metallics give rise to dramatic, high-impact manicures for Spring. To achieve the look seen at 3.1 Phillip Lim, apply two coats of Blackjack and layer with Jade Sparkle. For a subtler statement, try Silver Chrome or Gold Chrome with Super Matte for a muted metallic manicure similar to the nail looks at Jason Wu or Karen Walker.
